Key bones, muscles, and joints

Critical Points

Know where your hip is.  There is no such thing as a ‘hip bone’. The hip is joint, it controls the positions of the leg and pelvis.  There are 26 muscles cross the hip. Using the hips optimally is more complex than just: “use your glutes”.  However, the successfully utilizing the actions of the three gluteal muscles is the primary key to running comfortably, efficiently and pain free.
—-
The functional Spine extends from the tip of tailbone to base of skull.  It creates and upright central axis around which the two major limb girdles (arms and shoulders; pelvis and legs) rotate.

—-
The knee is a hinge. It provides leverage to the leg, is designed to move in a single plane and basically consists of two balls on two saucers.
—-

There are contractile structures under your active neurological control (Muscles and tendon)
—-

There are passive structures that maintain the integrity of the skeletal system and hold you together (ligaments, joint capsules, joint articular cartilage, joint stabilizing fibrocartilage)

Understanding the differences allows you to better manage the inevitable stresses and strains while accurately predicting healing times.
