Third Wednesdays, 7:00pm-8:30 pm
with Julie Donnelly, LMT

Athletes push their bodies on a regular basis, causing repetitive strain injuries that they frequently overlook until they become so severe they threaten the continuing in the athletes’ sport. Since 1989 the Julstro Muscular Therapy self-treatments have been proven successful with thousands of athletes worldwide. Sports injuries aren’t just a matter of rubbing where it hurts, it’s actually vital to find the source of the pain rather than just focusing on the symptoms.

This class is designed with athletes in mind, but it’s also wonderful for non-athletes or anyone who suffers from chronic pain. Each session will focus on specific conditions, explaining why muscles that may be far from the pain are causing the problem. Then after watching Julie as she is demonstrating how to self-treat each muscle involved in that painful condition, you will do each of the self-treatments. This class also explains how releasing the knots in the muscles will allow you to get a better stretch without tearing the tight muscle.

Class Schedule:

April 20 – Lower leg: shinsplints, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis
May 18 – Low back/Upper leg: quadriceps, knee pain, hamstrings
July 20 – Shoulder Pain: lateral rotator, frozen shoulder
Sept 20 – The Julstro Protocol for low back, groin, sciatica, hip, knee pain
Oct 19 – Neck pain, tinnitus, TMJ

Capoeira is a martial art created by African slaves in Brazil over 400 years ago. Over time, cultural elements of dance, fight, music and art merged to create what we call capoeira. Often referred to as the dance-fight-game, capoeira is a martial art that emphasizes dance, play, and music as heavily as martial aspects. In the art of capoeira, one learns to dance, one learns to play instruments and one learns a martial art, all the while with a smile on one’s face, and a swing to one’s step. ASCAB Capoeira NC is a Capoeira Group supervised by Mestre Doutor and taught by Instructor Cristal.

Revitalize and renew your body, mind and spirit at noon with this energizing yoga class. We’ll begin the practice with meditation to check in with ourselves and set an intention for the practice. We’ll then begin vinyasa or flow where we heat up the body and connect movement with breath. This new class will have more heat and variety in the vinyasa, along with more held standing poses, floor work, abdominals, backbends, and inversions. We will end with savasana and a brief meditation to check in with what we have created, and notice the many benefits from this practice.

This class is for all levels and we will slowly and consciously progress into poses and offer modifications so that you can safely explore moving your body in a new way.

Today’s hoop is more than a children’s toy from yesterday. Our hoops are adult-sized, making them easier to use, thereby opening up possibilities of dance and meditation- as well as fitness- for both men and women. Hooping provides an excellent aerobic workout that strengthens the core, increases flexibility, balance, rhythm and body awareness, and clears the path to creative self-expression. For some, Hooping is dance with resistance. For others, Hooping is a rhythmic exchange of grace and strength. In this class, students will learn the fundamental movements and theories of Hooping from two instructors. Hoops will be provided for class, custom hoops available for sale.
