Personal Training

BMST 2013-110

Create a new relationship with fitness.

Personal training with us is about developing a fitness relationship. Fitness isn’t about being the fastest or the trimmest — it’s about finding the motivation to make a change that will improve your quality of life. That’s where we can help.

Our certified personal trainers know how to give you the encouragement you need to stick with an exercise program. They can help you meet your fitness goal, whether that’s shedding pounds, running your first 5K or marathon, or managing chronic pain.

FAQs

Exercise just isn’t part of my life – can I really start from scratch?
Our trainers are experienced with people who do not have a history of exercising. No matter where you are in terms of movement and fitness, we’ll work with you to get you on the right path at a pace that’s right for you.

How often would I need to see a personal trainer?
In order to see change, a person needs to exercise three times a week. But you don’t necessarily have to see us that often. Some people find they can work with a trainer just once a week, and exercise on their own twice more. Others see a trainer once a week, then come to our studio twice a week for a “supervised visit.” And some people really want the guidance of a trainer three times a week, to help them stick with their exercise goal. Really, the answer depends on you – and we’ll help you figure it out during your initial consultation.

I want to exercise, but I’m afraid of hurting myself – can you help?
We share space with Proaxis Therapy, and the physical therapists there are often the first stop for people who are having difficulty exercising without pain. Our trainers regularly consult with Proaxis Therapy to create exercise programs that maximize benefit while minimizing or eliminating pain.

How long would I need to see a personal trainer?
During your initial consultation, we’ll work to set up short- and long-term goals, and a program that will help you reach them. Your needs will vary depending on your goal. Often, after a few weeks, you’ll have an established program and we’ll just meet once a month or so to make sure everything is going well.

Can I get a membership?
Because we focus on one-on-one attention in a private space, we do not offer memberships. However, personal training clients are encouraged to schedule “supervised visits,” where they can use our equipment with a personal trainer on hand to answer any questions they may have.

My gym has personal trainers – is there a reason not to just use them?
At Balanced Movement Studio, you’ll find that our trainers have made a commitment to making a difference in people’s lives. That means our trainers have four-year degrees in an exercise-related field, and they’re certified by a nationally recognized organization (such as ACSM, NASM, NSCA or ACE). For them, this is not a hobby. We also offer a private space where you can get our undivided attention, free of distractions. Your gym may be able to offer the same level of quality, and we strongly encourage you to explore your options before deciding on the personal trainer that’s right for you.

Can I get a discount if I buy multiple sessions?
Personal training is personal – if anything, the quality and value of personal training increases over time. With that in mind, we have a flat rate for training, much like a doctor has a flat rate for an office visit. At Balanced Movement Studio, you’ll receive professional care and attention that is consistent no matter how many times we see you.

Personal training is too expensive. Are there other options?
We understand that individual training may not fit into your budget. We offer semi-private sessions, where two people can work with a trainer, for $80 an hour. Working with a friend or family member can actually help you reach your goals, because you’ll have someone besides your trainer to keep you accountable. If you have a small group that is interested in exercising, there are even more options – just contact us to work out the details.

I’m not sure this is right for me – is there someone I can talk it over with?
We’ll gladly set you up with a free consultation with a trainer, including a tour of our studio. During that consultation, you can talk about your ambitions and expectations, and we can give you an idea of what might work for you.
