Basic strength exercises for running can be found within the demonstration explorations and exercises in the Running Biomechanics section.  We would consider these as the foundational movements for all runners.  Gain competency in performing them correctly before moving on to more advanced exercises.

Exercises Categories for Running

  • Primary strength – the muscles you use to move forward
  • Core / Stability  – the muscles that hold you stable keep the body segments coordinated and working together to move you forward.
  • Cross Training – exercises and activities that uses different patterns or different planes from running
  • Complementary – Exercises that move in the same basic plane as running: cycling, swimming, cardio in gym, hiking
  • Cross Training is asking the body to do something different

Brian and Andy helped me overcome a herniated disc that had me in pain 24/7. Within a few visits I was back to working out at full capacity without pain. Brian also helped me improve my run stride and movement of my posterior chain in the process. I'm stronger, faster, and healthier now having worked with them than I was before the injury.
